Delaware Tech uses late goal to defeat Hagerstown
Columbia, Md. - Delaware Tech-Stanton rallied from a goal down and then scored with just seconds remaining in the game to defeat the Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team in game one of the Dragon Invitational at Howard Community College.
The Hawks opened the match, controlling the tempo from the beginning and saw a quality opportunity in the 15th minute. Sophomore Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) recieved a through ball behind the Delaware Tech defense, but his shot curved just wide of the far post.
HCC would take the 1-0 lead though in the 20th minute, when Morgan played a diagonal ball to freshman Genc Sopa (Kosovo/Kosovo). Sopa touched the ball around the oncoming keeper and slotted it into the ball of the net for his first collegiate goal.
Delaware would respond though in the 38th minute, when a shot from 18 yards out deflected off the hands of freshman goalkeeper Kenny Frederickson (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy) and into the net.
Both teams would trade opportunities in the second half, but it was Delaware Tech who would close out the match with a goal, with just :50 seconds left in the game.
Frederickson finished the game with nine saves. The Hawks look to rebound tomorrow at 1:30pm when they square off against Essex County College, NJ in the Dragon Invitational at Howard C.C.
