HCC Soccer Releases 2012 Fall Schedule

Hagerstown, Md. - Hagerstown Community College Men’s Soccer coaches Brian Eichelberger and Brandon Rethemeyer have released the 2012 schedule.

The Hawks open up on August 20 with a preseason match at Division III, Frostburg State University at 6:00pm. HCC then travels to Hood College for an exhibition match on August 23 at 5:00pm. Last season, Hagerstown lost both games by the score of 1-0.  At the conclusion of preseason, the men will play 20 regular season matches before wrapping up with the Division I, Region XX Tournament.

The Hawks open up at home on August 30 at 3:30pm, against #13, Montgomery College-Rockville (13-4-3). HCC looks to rebound from last season’s opening game loss to MC.

September has the Hawks playing eight of their 13 games on the road, beginning with a contest at Potomac State (9-5-1) at 1:00pm. That will be followed up with a trip to reigning DI, Region XX winner and NJCAA National Tournament participant, #14, College of Southern Maryland (12-4-3) at 4:00pm. The Hawks took CSM to overtime last season, before conceding the match on a long free kick. HCC wraps up the week in North East, MD against Cecil (2-13-0) at 3:00pm. September 10, Hagerstown will travel to first-time opponent Westmoreland (6-9-0) at 4:00pm, before finally returning home against Anne Arundel (10-11-0) on September 12 at 3:30pm. The Hawks will stay home and host Allegany (1-12-0) on September 14 at 3:30pm. The schedule then takes HCC back on the road for two more matches against Delaware Tech (7-9-3) on September 16 at 1:00pm and then DIII, Region XX Champion, #6, Howard (19-7-0) on September 19 at 4:00pm. Hagerstown split contests with Delaware Tech last season; losing on the road in the final seconds and then dominating the match at home with a 6-0 victory. The men then return to their home pitch for another contest against Potomac State on September 21 at 3:30pm. The Hawks begin a four-game week against Lord Fairfax on September 23 and 12:00pm. HCC then travels to Catonsville (6-13-0), who ended their 2011 season with a victory in the playoffs on September 26 at 7:30pm. Hagerstown then welcomes back Northern Virginia (4-5-0) to their schedule, when they host on September 27 at 3:30pm. The Hawks wrap up the month on September 29 at 11:00am against #25 Essex (12-2-3). Three of the last four matches have gone to overtime, with last season ending in a double-overtime draw.

On October 3 at 3:30pm, Hagerstown will travel to nearby Frederick (0-14-0) before returning home for a three-game stand. HCC will square off against Chesapeake (3-10-0) on October 5 at 3:30 pm and then #22 and MDJUCO Champion Harford (14-4-1) on October 10 at 3:30pm. The Hawks will host their final regular season match against Prince Georges (11-5-2) on October 12, at 3:30pm. HCC saw their 2-0 lead disappear against PG last season before falling in the match. Hagerstown finishes up its season on the road, with another contest against Northern Virginia, on October 18 at 3:30pm.

The Region XX Playoffs will start with the first round on October 20 at the home site of the higher seed, with the Final Four competing October 24-27 at Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD. The winner will move onto the NJCAA District match for a chance to go to the National Tournament.

“Like last season, we will tested immediately when we open up with Rockville; but after being humbled by our final  results, we are eager to get back to our winning ways  ”, stated Head Coach Brian Eichelberger. “We’ve added a few new non-conference teams to our already competitive schedule, so hopefully this will prepare us for the rigors of MDJUCO competition, where five teams were ranked in the top 25 in the nation last year. With the addition of another team qualifying for Districts this year, we are looking forward to grabbing one of the top two spots in the Region.”
