Five Hagerstown Players Selected for NJCAA Region XX Sophomore All-Star Game
La Plata, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team had five players selected to compete for the Division I squad in the NJCAA Region XX Sophomore All-Star Game.
Sophomore defenders Mark Vomend (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg),Daniel Lennox (Frederick, Md./Urbana), and Sean Koontz (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy) joined strikers Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) and Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) to represent HCC on the squad.
The annual game, which pits Division I players against Division III players in Region XX was played at the College of Southern Maryland. Division III would win the match 4-3 on the afternoon.
Morgan opened the scoring in the match, netting a goal in the fifth minute when he split the defense and then the keeper. After surrendering a goal to even the match, Morgan would strike again, giving DI a lead, when he chipped the goalkeeper from close range. Division III would draw even again and then take the 3-2 lead just before halftime. Division I would score a goal in the 65th minute to bring the match to 3-3, before giving up the game winning goal with just four minutes left.
