Hawks Dominate MDJUCO Opponent Allegany

Hagerstown, Md.- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team used five second half goals to dominate MDJUCO Opponent Allegany College of Maryland, 8-1.

The Hawks took control of the game from the 17th minute as freshman Alejandro C. Oliart (Germantown, Md./Northwest) finished a scoring opportunity from a perfectly placed through ball from classmate Nate Redmond (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg). HCC didn't look back as freshman Jermaine Hardy, Jr. (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) tallied back-to-back goals in the 23rd and 32nd minutes respectively. Oliart would be credited with the assist on his first goal while freshman Thomas Alvarez (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) dished out the second. Hagerstown would take the 3-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, it only took one minute as freshman Geordy Nyam (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) finished a through ball from Alvarez. Nyam then put the Hawks up 5-0 in the 54th minute when freshman Eric Madrid (Germantown, Md./Northwest) sliced a ball into the path of Nyam before he placed it far post.

In the 67th minute, the Hawks played excellent possession, completing 12 straight passes before Redmond slotted the ball into freshman Ernesto Mejia (Damascus, Md./Damascus) who finished calmly into the side netting. Just two minutes later, the Trojans would crack the scoreboard when they would beat a Hagerstown defender and go one-on-one with freshman goalkeeper, Tim Horning (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg). The Allegany player would shoot low and to the left side of Horning before the ball found the back of the net. In the 70th minute, sophomore captain Jake Ernst (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) recorded his first collegiate goal after Redmond flicked on a free kick from Madrid.

HCC rounded out the scoring in the 79th minute when Hardy finished off his hat trick. Freshman Tareeq Bello (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) attacked down the left side and found an overlapping Hardy who tucked the ball past the Allegany keeper.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cristian Mejia (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard) started the game and recorded four saves while second half replacement Horning also recorded four.

The Hawks return to action on Friday when the square off against Howard Community College in Columbia, Md. at 4:00pm.
