Men's Soccer Hosts Annual Awards Banquet
Hagerstown, Md. -The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team hosted their annual Team Awards Banquet. The student-athletes received All-MDJUCO, All-Region XX, Team, and Sophomore awards during the evening ceremony.
Sophomore Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) was named "Team MVP". Morgan, a first-team Division I NJCAA Region XX and first-team All-MDJUCO recipient was also nominated for NJCAA All-American this season. Morgan finished the season ranked fourth in the MDJUCO with points (33). He led the Hawks with 14 goals and five assists. For his career, Morgan finished with 23 goals, 8 assists for 54 points. "Zack, our team captain this season, exhibited a stellar two-year career for us," said head coach Brian Eichelberger. "Zack is a model student-athlete and he stepped up for us offensively over the last two seasons."
Freshman Devin Repp (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) was awarded the "Unsung Hero Award." Repp, was a mainstay at his left back position this season. "Devin was a force in the back for us this year," stated Eichelberger. "He was our most consistent defender this season and the team struggled in the few games he missed due to a head injury. We look for Devin to garner a lot of attention with his play for the 2012 season."
Freshman Mamadou Jallow (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) was named "Newcomer of the Year." In his first season with the Hawks, he was named second team Division I NJCAA Region XX. He led the team in assists with six and was tied for third in points with 10. "Mamadou held down the middle of the field for us the entire season," noted Eichelberger. "He is one of the toughest players we had and we look for him to get even better for the 2012 season."
Sophomore Gabe Hirsch (Hagerstown, Md./Broadfording) took home the "Comeback Athlete Award." Hirsch was a role player for the Hawks in the 2010 season, where he contributed off the bench; however, in 2011, he came back as one of the hardest working players on the team and finished with two goals and three assists for seven points. "Spencer's hustle and heart is what separated him from the rest of the team this year," quoted Eichelberger. "He was the catalyst who pushed the other players to do their best and he is very deserving of this award."
Freshman Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) was selected for the "Hawk Award." This annual award goes to the player who exemplifies desire and dedication to the program. Kipe started and played in every game this season and finished with four goals and two assists for 10 points. "Chucky was one of the best breakout players for us this season," said Eichelberger. "He wants to win at all costs and truly puts the team before himself. We jostled him around the field to plug holes as needed and he responded and gave 100% every practice and game. We look for Chucky to push all the players next season in order to get us back to the level we strive for."
In addition to Morgan, and Hirsch, the Hawks also say goodbye to sophomores Daniel Lennox (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Sean Koontz (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy), Mark Vomend (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) and Daniel Doub (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport). "We will truely miss this group of sophomores because they were some of the most talented athletes we've had come through the program," noted Eichelberger. "These sophomores carried on the tradition we've established and each individual player contributed to our recent success. We wish them the best of luck in their futures, because each of these student-athletes have great potential with their talent."
