Hagerstown To Face CCBC-Catonsville in Quarterfinal Playoff Match

Hagerstown, Md.- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team will square off against CCBC-Catonsville on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00pm.

The Hawks earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, while the Cardinals finished with the No. 6 seed.

HCC (7-9-1, 5-7-0) enters the match having played one of their best games of the season, with a 3-2 win over College of Southern Maryland.  The last time the Hawks squared off against Catonsville was on September 11 and the Cardinals captured a 3-1 win. On the road, Catonsville is 4-5-0, while Hagerstown is 3-4-0 at home. The Cardinals are 2-4-0 in their last six games, while the Hawks are 3-3-0.

Catonsville is led by Sophomore, Mamadou Bah, who has ten goals and six assists for 26 points. Catonsville also features freshman Mike Gagnon and sophomore Scott DeFrances. Gagnon has ten goals on the year, while DeFrances has five goals and six assists. In net, the Cardinals start freshman Etienne Roberts. Roberts has started in goal 12 times, recording 63 saves.

Freshman, Alejandro C. Oliart (Germantown, Md./Northwest), leads Hagerstown Community College with his Division I leading, 17 goals, four assists, for 38 points. Freshman Jermaine Hardy, Jr. (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) is second on the team in points with 34, coming from 11 goals and 12 assists. Freshman Thomas Alvarez (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) is also a key contributor for the Hawks, with six goals and seven assists for 19 points. In net, Hagerstown starts sophomore, Cristian Mejia (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard). Meija, who suffered a season-ending injury against Catonsville last season was forced to miss five games due to concussion symptoms. This season, he has 113 saves and boasts a .801 save percentage.

The winner will face No. 2 seed, Harford (9-5-2, 8-3-1) on Wednesday, October 28, while No. 1 CCBC-Essex  (13-5-0, 11-1-0) waits to face the winner of No. 4 seed College of Southern Maryland (6-8-0, 6-6-0) and No. 5 seed Frederick (9-7-0, 5-7-0). Both semi-final matches will be played on the home soil of the higher seed.

The Division I Region XX Championship is scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at the home of the higher remaining seed.
