Battle of the Hawks set for Quarterfinals of Region XX Playoffs

Hagerstown, Md. - For the first time in seven seasons, the Hagerstown Community College Men's Soccer team drew the College of Southern Maryland Hawks for the NJCAA Region XX Division I Playoffs. In 2009, CSM bested HCC in the Semifinals, 2-1.

The Battle of the Hawks game will take place in La Plata, Maryland on Saturday, October 22 at 12:00pm.

HCC is the No. 6 seed, in the tournament, while CSM finished with the No. 3 seed.

Just one week ago, the two teams met in Hagerstown, with HCC coming away with the 3-2 win in overtime. Sophomore Leo Anjos (Recife, Brazil/Trinity) finished the game with two goals including the game winner in the 97th minute.

On the road, Hagerstown is 4-2-0, while College of Southern Maryland is 3-3-1 at home. CSM is currently on a three-game losing streak, being outscored 9-3 during this time and HCC is 2-2-0 in their last four matches.

College of Southern Maryland is led by sophomore Jehoshua Otuya, who has 14 goals and two assists for 30 points. CSM also features freshman Brandon Herscher who has three goals for six points. In net, the CSM Hawks start freshman Benjamin Kelly. Kelly has played in 13 matches and surrendered 29 goals while making 92 saves.

Anjos leads Hagerstown Community College with 12 goals, three assists, for 27 points. Sophomore Nathan Redmond (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) is second on the team in points with 22, coming from nine goals and four assists. In net, Hagerstown will be starting freshman Grant Adams (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport). Adams, has participated in the last two matches, standing in for season ending injuries suffered by sophomore, Tim Horning (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) and freshman Ian Hose (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring). Adams has recorded 25 saves in the back to back starts.

The winner will face No. 2 seed, Frederick Community College on Wednesday, October 26. No. 1 seed CCBC-Essex waits to face the winner of No. 4 seed Harford and No. 5 seed Catonsville. Both semi-final matches will be played at CCBC-Dundalk.

The Division I Region XX Championship is scheduled for Saturday, October 29 at CCBC-Dundalk.
