Smithsburg Senior Commits to Hagerstown C.C. Soccer
Hagerstown, Md.- Smithsburg High School senior, Adam Dwyer, has recently announced his commitment to the Hagerstown Community College men’s soccer team.
Dwyer, a four-year varsity player for the Leopards, played both midfield and defense during his time at Smithsburg. He was appointed captain his junior and senior seasons.
During his senior year, he netted two goals and added four assists from his defensive position. Smithsburg earned their best record in 10 years when they went 7-9-0 overall and 5-5-0 in conference. He helped the team to four shutouts as well.
Dwyer earned back-to-back All-County and All-Conference honors his junior and senior years. He was elected First Team and Honorable Mention All-County, as well as Second Team All-Antietam Conference. Dwyer was listed as Player to Watch in the preseason county headlines. Dwyer also took home the Outstanding Accomplishment Award given by the Smithsburg High School coach.
Along with SHS, Dwyer competed with Hagerstown Soccer Club and Smithsburg Youth Athletics. He is also a member of the Smithsburg High School Tennis and Track Teams.
Dwyer will be reunited with Smithsburg High School teammate, Tim Horning while at HCC. The other recruits for the 2015 season include, Montgomery County natives, Ernesto Mejia, Diego Claros, Geordy Nyam and Alejandro Oliart, as well as Washington County recruit, Ryan Byard and Frederick County player, Jose Ramirez.
"Adam was a crucial piece in Smithsburg's turnaround this year" mentioned head coach Brian Eichelberger. "He is model scholar-athlete, earning a 3.8 GPA and being in National Honor Society, so we can expect him to come in and be a role model off the field right away. Adam is a versatile player that we plug anywhere on the field that we see fit."
