Hawks add Striker, Ernesto Mejia, for the Upcoming Season
Hagerstown, Md.- Damascus High School alumnus, Ernesto Mejia, has recently announced his commitment to the Hagerstown Community College men’s soccer team.
Mejia, the brother of current Hawk goalkeeper Crisitan, graduated high school a semester early to pursue a soccer opportunity in Central Mexico. Mejia spent his freshman year at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD before transferring to Damascus High School for his sophomore and junior season. He was unable to play his senior year due to an injury he sustained. During his junior year the Hornets were Division Champions and he lead the team in goals, while also capturing goal of the year in a 4-1 win over Rockville High School.
After graduation, Mejia participated with Pachuca Region I, where he was then selected by the Indios professional minor league soccer team. He played in the fourth division and then moved up to the third division. He was then transferred to the third division Tlaxcala Aguilas where he played forward.
While in the United States, Mejia has competed with Seneca Hawks and Bethesda Ajax. His teams have been division champions in the MSI classic, Freestate Tournament Semi-finalists, and Futsal State Champions.
Mejia will be participating with Hagerstown Community College in the spring as he is enrolled in classes before the fall 2015 season kicks off.
Mejia joins Montgomery County recruit Alejandro Oliart and Washington County goalkeeper, Tim Horning as 2015 recruits.
"It was one of our main priorities this offseason to go after attacking talent" mentioned head coach Brian Eichelberger. "We graduated our two-year leading goal scorer, so we need players who can come in and fill that role. Ernesto is an established forward with a ton of experience. We are excited to have him in the spring, so then by fall he will be hitting his stride.”
