Hagerstown to Face CCBC-Catonsville in First Round of Division I Region XX Tournament

Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community men's soccer team will host CCBC-Catonsville for a first round showdown in the Division I, Region XX Tournament. The two squads will meet Saturday in Hagerstown, Md. at 12:00 pm.

The Hawks earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament, while the Cardinals are the No. 5 seed.

HCC (6-8-2, 5-6-1 MDJUCO) and CCBC-Catonsville (5-12-0, 5-7-0 MDJUCO) have already met once this year, with the Hawks taking the convincing 3-1 victory. Hagerstown took a one goal lead into half and then netted two in the second half, while the Cardinals would score in the final minute of play on a counter attack. 

The Cardinals are led by Kevin Medrano and Denair Mitchell. Medrano has seven goals, four assists, for 18 points while Mitchell has three goals and five assists for 11 points. Tyler Hall and Cody Koester have split time in net for Catonsville.

The Hawks have four players with 10 points or greater on the season. Sophomore Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) leads HCC with 14 goals and five assists for 33 points, while sophomore Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) has three goals and five assists for 11 points. Freshmen Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Mamadou Jallow (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) both have 10 points. Jallow leads the Hawks with six assists and also has tallied two goals, while Kipe has four goals and two assists. Kenny Frederickson (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy), Chip Rittenhouse (Hagerstown, Md./South) and Fredy Velasquez (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) have all seen time in net for HCC.

Top seeded Harford Community College (13-3-1, 11-0-1 MDJUCO) awaits the winner of this match, while CCBC-Essex (11-2-2, 8-1-2 MDJUCO) and College of Southern MD (11-3-0, 8-2-0 MDJUCO) will compete in the other Semi-final match.
