Payne Leads HCC to MDJUCO Win over Allegany
Cumberland, Md. - Hagerstown Community College controlled the momentum for the entire game and came away with a 5-0 win over MDJUCO opponent Allegany College of Maryland.
HCC looked to open the scoring in the 21st minute when a free kick from Daniel Doub (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) was heading for the upper corner of the goal, before the AC keeper was able to tip it over. The Hawks finally broke through in the 33rd minute, when a rebound shot from freshman Jordan Payne (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) was put in the net by sophomore Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy). HCC would add to the score just two minutes later when Payne would dish out another assist to classmate Mamadou Jallow (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson). Hagerstown would take on another goal before halftime when sophomore Gabe Hirsch (Hagerstown, Md./Broadfording) headed home a corner kick from freshman Josh Fahlfeder (Monrovia, Md./Urbana).
The second half would be dominated by Hagerstown as well and freshman Nelson Moreno (Hagerstown, Md./North) finished an unassisted opportunity in the 59th minute to make the score 4-0. In the 67th minute, Morgan would return the favor to Payne when he slotted a through ball where Payne confidently placed it past the keeper to round out the game at 5-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Chip Rittenhouse (Hagerstown, Md./South)was credited with the win and shutout as he made one save on the afternoon. Freshmen keepers Freddy Velasquez (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Kenny Frederickson (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy) would split time in the second half. Frederickson would make a great diving save late in the game to secure the shutout.
The Hawks will have their home opener on September 19 when they host Cecil College at 3:30pm.
