Two First Half Goals Propel HCC to Victory
Hagerstown, Md.- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team scored two first half goals and finished out the game with the 2-0 victory over Allegany College of Maryland.
HCC jumped out to the early lead, just four minutes into the game, when sophomore Jonah Smith (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) scored his sixth goal in three games. Freshman Jacob Bickley (Frederick, Md./Frederick) would chip the ball to the back post, where Smith would bring it down, beat a defender and slot it far post.
The Hawks netted an insurance goal in the 38th minute when Bickley hammered home a volley off an assist from sophomore Patrick Creadick (Myersville, Md./Middletown).
HCC continued to control momentum and had their sights on a third goal, but the ACM goalkeeper would tip over a shot in the 41st minute from Bickley.
Hagerstown had several chances in the second half to extend their lead, but sophomore Jacob Hargett (Myersville, Md./Middletown) would see his header just miss the upper corner of the goal, while classmate Leland Creadick (Myersville, Md./Middletown) would have his shot saved and the ensuing rebound would go out for a Hawk corner kick.
HCC outshot the Trojans 10-3 and freshman goalkeeper Shad Gordon (Needmore, Pa./Southern Fulton) recorded four saves in the shutout win.
