Hagerstown and Anne Arundel Play to 0-0 Draw
Arnold, Md.- Hagerstown Community College and Anne Arundel went 110 minutes, but neither team could the net, resulting in a 0-0 tie.
The Hawks had the first chance of the night in the 3rd minute, when freshman Jacob Bickley (Frederick, Md./Frederick) took a chance on goal, but the ball just went over the crossbar. HCC would retain much of the possession the first half, but the Pioneers would have numbers behind the ball in order to thwart any sort of attack. Hagerstown almost got an own goal in the 30th minute when an AACC passback to the goalkeeper would be misplayed and hit off the right goalpost before being cleared.
In the 50th minute, AACC would mount a counter attack and their shot would ring off the crossbar and eventually be cleared out of danger. Thirteen minutes later, freshman Emmanuel Sahr (Sierra Leone, West Africa/Beechcroft) would find himself on a breakaway, but the Pioneer keeper would come up with a save to keep the game scoreless. The Hawks would finish off regulation holding the advantage in shots, 13-7.
In the first overtime period, it appeared HCC finally broke through, but sophomore Jacob Hargett (Myersville, Md./Middletown) saw his shot from 20 yards out bang off the crossbar and out of play. In the 103rd minute, Bickley would all but finish the game as well, but his shot would drift wide of the right post .
HCC freshman goalkeeper Cristian Mejia (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard) would finish with eight saves on the evening, while earning his third shutout of the season. Mejia is currently first in the MDJUCO with saves and save percentage.
