HCC Falls to Cape Fear
Wilmington, Nc.- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team struggled to find possession and ultimately fell to Cape Fear Community College, 3-0.
The Sea Devils controlled the tempo from the whistle, getting numerous chances in the first 15 minutes of the game. In the sixth minute, the Hawks had to clear the ball off the line in order to save a goal opportunity. Cape Fear would tally a goal in the 17th minute when a long ball would be misscommunicated, resulting in a simple tap in for the CF forward.
HCC had their best chance to tie the game in the 41st minute when freshman Brad Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) saw his shot go over the crossbar.
The Sea Devils would strike again in the 54th minute when a corner kick would be uncontested and after two knockdowns, the ball would be placed into the net. Just four minutes later an HCC defender would drag down a Cape Fear player in the box, which lead to a penalty kick. On the ensuing spot kick, freshman goalkeeper Cristian Mejia (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard) would save the chance, diving to his left.
In the 70th minute, CF would put the game out of reach by sailing in a 30 yard shot, beating Mejia to the upper corner of the goal.
Mejia would finish with 10 saves on the afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-1-0 overall and will face Spartenburg Methodist tomorrow morning.
