Lennox and Reyes Lead HCC to Conference Win
Catonsville, MD- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team controlled the game from the beginning and despite allowing a first half goal, were able to rally back to secure the 2-1 MDJUCO win over Catonsville Community College.
Freshman Daniel Lennox (Frederick, Md./Urbana) put HCC on the board in the fifth minute, when he headed a ball far post off the corner kick foot of sophomore Edwin Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport). The Hawks would continue to threaten; however, numerous chances would be turned away by the Cardinal defense.
Catonsville evened the game at one-a-piece, in the 32nd minute, when a bouncing ball in the HCC box would find the back of the net.
In the second half, the game began to get more physical, as both teams were battling back and forth. Sophomore Michael Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport)picked off a Catonsville pass at midfield and despite being chased by Cardinal defenders, he was able to place his breakaway opportunity past the Catonsville keeper for the 2-1 advantage.
HCC was able to control the game with the lead and improved their record to 8-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference. Sophomore keeper Brian Kukucka (Frederick, Md./Urbana)would make five saves on the evening. The Hawks return to action when they face MDJUCO powerhouse and #4 in the nation CCBC-Essex on Tuesday. Last year, HCC lost a hard fought 2-1 game in overtime to Essex.
