HCC Holds off Cecil Rally to Secure Conference Win
North East, MD- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team rebounded from a three-game losing streak on Wednesday, when they defeated MDJUCO Conference opponent Cecil College, 4-2.
HCC got on the board in the eighth minute, when freshman Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) converted on his third penalty kick of the season. Sophomore Michael Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) added to the lead in 17th minute, when he received a pass from classmate Andrew Fowkes (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) and placed his shot off the far post and in for the 2-0 advantage. Just five minutes later Reyes would strike again for his second goal on the afternoon and sixth on the season, off a freshman Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) assist. Hajjar would round out the scoring in the first half when he headed the ball over the oncoming Seahawk goalkeeper after Morgan touched him the ball.
Cecil would threaten in the second half however, when they netted back-to-back goals in the 50th and 51st minutes. HCC would be able to hold off their rally and keep them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Sophomore keeper Brain Kukucka (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) would tally six saves on the afternoon for the Hawks. The men's team return home on Friday for a conference showdown with Anne Arundel Community College at 4:00pm.
