Sopa Nets Four Goals to Lead Hawks to Win

Hagerstown, Md. - Hagerstown Community College scored three goals in each half, with sophomore Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian)  leading the team with four goals, helping the Hawks to a 6-2 victory over MDJUCO opponent, Cecil College.

HCC opened the scoring in the 18th minute, when sophomore Mamadou Jallow (Gambia, Africa/Thomas Johnson) put away a shot that was assisted by classmate Nathan Pryor (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg). Pryor flicked on a ball down the middle that found Jallow in front of the goal, where he placed his shot around the Seahawk keeper. Sopa would then net his first goal of the afternoon just two minutes later when he received a ball from freshman Fourkoko Chaw (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) and made a move around the defender in the box before beating the keeper far post.

Freshman Bobby Matusek (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) would score his first collegiate goal in the 35th minute, when he chipped the Cecil goalkeeper from 25 yards out. Matusek took the pass from classmate Kwasi Ofosu Ameyaw (Hagerstown, Md./South).

In the 61st minute, Sopa got on the end of a through ball played in from freshman Ruben Ayllon (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) and sent his shot into the side net of the goal.

Cecil would chip away at the 4-0 lead in the 70th minute, when a Seahawk player headed home an uncontested shot off a corner kick. Just five minutes later, Cecil would beat second half keeper substitute Brandon Wingfield (Hagerstown, Md./South) far post, off an HCC turnover in the defense.

Sopa would put the game out of reach, scoring his third and fourth goals in the 82nd and 85th minutes respectively. Freshmen Bradley Coblentz (Frederick, Md./Middletown) and Brandon Redman (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) would get credit for the assists.

Hawk starting goalkeeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) made five saves on the afternoon before giving way to Wingfield who made two saves.

With the win, HCC improves to 2-1 overall and travels to non conference opponent Westmoreland County Community College on Monday for a 4:00pm kickoff.
