Hagerstown Defeats MDJUCO Opponent Cecil

Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated MDJUCO opponent Cecil College 4-0.

For the second game in a row, the Hawks scored a goal in the first five minutes to take an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Bobby Matusek (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) found himself on a breakaway in the 4th minute, but was taken down from behind before he could get his shot off. Classmate Kwasi Ofosu Ameyaw (Accra, Ghana/South Hagerstown) stepped up to the penalty spot and confidently placed the ball into the side netting.

In the 27th minute, the Hawks extended their lead when sophomore Matt Suddith (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) tucked away a through ball from freshman Akheem Riley (Kingston, Jamaica/Thomas Johnson). Riley currently leads the team with three assists in two contests.

HCC looked to extend their lead in the 62nd minute when Matusek took a pass from freshman Jonah Smith (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) and flicked a shot past the Seahawk keeper but it would be denied by the right post. Smith would respond just 10 minutes later when he netted his fourth game in two games after he collected a lose ball in the Cecil goal box and placed it into the net.

Sophomore Bradley Coblentz (Middletown, Md./Middletown) would finalize the scoring at 4-0, when he powered home a shot from teammate Patrick Creadick (Myersville, Md../Middletown).

Hagerstown goalkeeper Adam Carrier (Cumberland, Md./Calvary Christian Academy) would record four saves in the win, while freshman keeper Ethan Waters (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) came in to preserve the shut out late in the game.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, September 7 when they travel to the Patrick Henry Tournament at 5:00pm to take on Cape Fear Community College.

Sopa Scores Two, Hagerstown Wins 3-1
Hagerstown Md. -The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team rallied from a goal down to defeat Westmoreland County Community College 3-1, in a non conference match.
HCC controlled the action much of the first half, but the Hawks surrendered a goal in the 25th minute, when a Wolfpack player picked off an errant pass from a Hagerstown defender. After intercepting the pass, WCCC saw sophomore keeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) off his line and they were able to lob a shot over his head and into the net.
Hagerstown would recover quickly, and in the 37th minute sophomore Mamadou Jallow (Gambia, Africa/Thomas Johnson) attacked down the left side before passing the ball to classmate Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian). He would need just one quick move before placing his shot past the Wolfpack goalkeeper.
The match would head into half deadlocked at 1-1. The second half would be dominated by the Hawks and in the 73rd minute, Sopa would net his second goal on the afternoon. Freshman Bobby Matusek (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) would play a through ball into the path of Sopa, which he then hammered into the net for his third multi-goal game.
The Hawks would add an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when a shot from sophomore Brandon Barlow (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport)rang off the post and then was handled by a WCCC defender. Hagerstown earned a penalty kick for the play and Jallow converted on the spot kick to secure the win.
Kipe finished with four saves on the afternoon and the Hawks improve to 6-4 overall. HCC returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to MDJUCO and NJCAA Region XX Division I opponent CCBC-Catonsville at 7:30pm

HCC Defeats Prince Georges for MDJUCO Win

Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team squared off against MDJUCO opponent Prince George's on "Sophomore Day" for the Hawks. 

Freddy Velasquez (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Nathan Pryor (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg), Brandon Barlow (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport), Chip Rittenhouse (Hagerstown, Md./South), Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian), and Mamadou Jallow (Gambia, Africa/Thomas Johnson) were all honored prior to the game for their hardwork and dedication over their two-year careers.

The Hawks jumped on PG early and controlled the tempo and pace from the initial whistle. In the 18th minute, Sopa looked to get on the scorer's sheet, but after cutting the ball past a defender, his shot rang off the far post and was cleared out of danger. Just two minutes later, Sopa was able to put the Hawks up 1-0, when he netted his conference leading 12th goal of the year. Freshmn Osman Ramizov (Hagerstown, Md./North) attacked down the right flank and shouldered off a defender to cut an anlge towards the goal, where he found Sopa for the two-touch goal.

HCC would add an insurance goal in the 30th minute when Ramizov flicked a ball into the path of Jallow, who was able to power a shot into the upper corner of the goal.

Hagerstown continued to dominate play in the second half, but could not find the net for a third time on the afternoon. Kipe recorded four saves in 79 minutes, while Velasquez came in to preserve the shutout for the remaining 11 minutes.

With the victory, the Hawks (10-6-0, 6-4-0) record double-digit wins for the fourth time in five years. The win was also head coach Brian Eichelberger's 50th career win.

HCC looks to keep the streak going when they travel to nonconference opponent Lord Fairfax on October 14, for a 12:00 kickoff.
