Hagerstown Gives Up Lead and Falls To #20 CSM
Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team scored early and continued to dominate the match, but surrendered two unfortunate goals late in the match to fall to #20 College of Southern Maryland.
The Hawks jumped on the board early in the 8th minute when sophomore Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) played a ball into classmate Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) who beat the defense and slotted it past the keeper. HCC continued to control the play and they looked to take the 2-0 lead when Morgan laid the ball back to the top of the box, where Hajjar riffled a volley off the crossbar.
In the second half, freshman Daniel Doub (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) saw his free kick hit off the upper corner of the goal in the 60th minute. CSM would draw even with eight minutes remaining when a shot bounced off the chest of freshman keeper Kenny Frederickson (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy) and ended up being headed back in the net.
The game would head into overtime, with CSM garnering the momentum. In the 95th minute, College of Southern Maryland would score the golden goal, when a spot kick from 55 yards out would be misplayed and untouched and found its way into the goal.
Hagerstown looks to get back on track on Monday when they square off against non conference opponent Potomac State of West Virginia. The game is slated for a 3:30pm kickoff.
