HCC Holds on to Defeat Delaware Tech
New Castle, De. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team took a commanding 3-0 lead before surrendering two late goals to hang on to defeat Delaware Tech.
The Hawks controlled much of the play on the afternoon and in the 18th minute, sophomore Mamadou Jallow (Gambia, Africa/Thomas Johnson) picked out freshman Fourkoko Chaw (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) in the box, but Chaw's opportunity just went over the bar. In the 40th minute Jallow struck the ball from 30 yards out and his chance dropped off the crossbar and down onto the goal line, but it was ruled no goal. The Hawks would finally find the net just one minute before half when a shot from sophomore Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian) would be redirected by freshman Brandon Redman (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) and put into the net.
HCC would extend their lead in the 50th minute when Delaware Tech would be whistled for a handball in the penalty box. Jallow would step up to the spot and place the spot kick past the keeper and into the net for his third goal of the season. The Hawks would net a third goal in the 60th minute when freshman Osman Ramizov (Hagerstown, Md./North)hammered his shot by the Delaware Tech goalkeeper.
Tech would respond with a score of their own in the 68th minute when a breakaway chance would get past sophomore goalkeeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora). Just seven minutes later, an identical breakaway opportunity would be scored, narrowing the Hawk lead to 3-2.
HCC would threaten with a few more chances late in the game, but the score would hold in favor of the Hawks. Kipe finished with five saves on the afternoon. Hagerstown returns to action on September 19 when they travel to MDJUCO opponent Howard C.C.
