Sopa Scores Two, Hagerstown Wins 3-1
Hagerstown Md. -The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team rallied from a goal down to defeat Westmoreland County Community College 3-1, in a non conference match.
HCC controlled the action much of the first half, but the Hawks surrendered a goal in the 25th minute, when a Wolfpack player picked off an errant pass from a Hagerstown defender. After intercepting the pass, WCCC saw sophomore keeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) off his line and they were able to lob a shot over his head and into the net.
Hagerstown would recover quickly, and in the 37th minute sophomore Mamadou Jallow (Gambia, Africa/Thomas Johnson) attacked down the left side before passing the ball to classmate Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian). He would need just one quick move before placing his shot past the Wolfpack goalkeeper.
The match would head into half deadlocked at 1-1. The second half would be dominated by the Hawks and in the 73rd minute, Sopa would net his second goal on the afternoon. Freshman Bobby Matusek (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) would play a through ball into the path of Sopa, which he then hammered into the net for his third multi-goal game.
The Hawks would add an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when a shot from sophomore Brandon Barlow (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport)rang off the post and then was handled by a WCCC defender. Hagerstown earned a penalty kick for the play and Jallow converted on the spot kick to secure the win.
Kipe finished with four saves on the afternoon and the Hawks improve to 6-4 overall. HCC returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to MDJUCO and NJCAA Region XX Division I opponent CCBC-Catonsville at 7:30pm.

Hagerstown upended by #19 CCBC-Essex

Essex, Md. -The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team came into the afternoon riding a four game winning streak, but were upended by #17 CCBC-Essex 3-0.

The Hawks looked to be on the defensive from the initial whistle as the Knights tested sophomore keeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) right away. Kipe came up with a big save eight minutes into the contest when he had to make a sliding save on an unmarked player inside the six yard box.

CCBC-Essex would take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when a long ball over the Hawks back line landed on the feet of a Knights player who would confidently place the ball past Kipe. The Hawks would respond following the goal, but could not find the equalizer as the teams went into halftime with the score remaining 1-0.

The Knights would extend their lead just four minutes into the second half when they would attack down the right side of the field and slot the ball across the box, where it would be met by an Essex player who would put the ball into the net. HCC looked to regain momentum, and their best chance of the afternoon came in the 51st minute when freshman Brandon Redman (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) found himself on a breakaway, but his chance would be thwarted by the Knight goalkeeper.

CCBC-Essex would tally another goal in the 67th minute when they would convert on a penalty kick after being fouled in the HCC box. The game would finish in favor of the Knights 3-0 and Kipe would finish with eight saves on the afternoon.

Hagerstown returns to action on October 3 when they travel to MDJUCO Division I opponent Frederick at 3:00pm.
