Hagerstown Upended by Essex County College, NJ

Columbia, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team dropped their second game in the Dragon Invitational to eventual champion, Essex County College, NJ, 6-0.

The Hawks opened the match with a quality chance in the 17th minute, when sophomore Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) picked off a pass from a defender and back heeled it freshman Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) whose shot just missed the far post.

The Wolverines struck first in the 19th minute when a breakaway forced freshman goalkeeper Kenny Frederickson (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy) out of the goal, where the player then was able to slot it past the hands of Frederickson.

Essex took a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute off a corner kick goal. The Wolverines then netted four-straight goals in the second half. In the 60th minute the ball was chipped over the back line where an oncoming player hammered it into the net. Just three minutes later a driven ball across the goal mouth was volleyed into the back of the net. In the 72nd minute, the ball was laid off to the top of the box, where it was placed in the goal. The Wolverines closed out the scoring in the 75th minute when a perfectly placed shot from 25 yards out beat Frederickson to the top corner of the goal.

The Hawks continued to compete and freshman Alex Sanchez (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) saw his follow up chance off a free kick hit the post in the 85th minute.

Frederickson ended the match with 12 saves, while freshman keeper Chip Rittenhouse (Hagerstown, Md./South) was credited with two.
