Matusek Nets Two, Hawks Down Frederick Community College

Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College (7-6-0) men's soccer team extended their undefeated home streak by defeating Frederick Community College, 3-1 in MDJUCO action.

The Hawks began the game with intensity and put pressure on FCC right from the kickoff. A shot from freshman Jusseth Velazquez (Frederick, Md./Frederick) just one minute into the game set the tone for HCC. The Hawks would retain much of the possession in the first half, peppering the Cougar goal with seven shots, as they would sit back and look for a counter attack.

Frederick would play a long ball that bounced in behind the Hagerstown defense in the 33rd minute, and a Cougar player would chip the ball over freshman keeper Ethan Waters (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville). The Hawks would rebound and tie the game up with just 10 seconds before halftime. Freshman Akheem Riley (Kingston, Jamaica/Thomas Johnson) would pick out classmate Leland Creadick (Myersville, Md./Middletown) at the top of the Cougar box. After eluding a sliding defender, Creadick put the ball on his right foot and bent it around the diving keeper and into the net.

In the second half, the Hawks would control the game and look to break the deadlock. In the 60th minute, Creadick would launch a long throw in to the box, where sophomore Bobby Matusek (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) flicked a header over the keeper and into the far corner of the goal.

Just two minutes later, Creadick picked out Matusek again, this time from 35 yards away. Matusek struck the volley perfectly and riffled the shot past the Cougar keeper for his second goal on the afternoon.

In the 74th minute, Matusek looked to net a hat trick, but his half volley from 25 yards out rang off the crossbar and out of play. Freshman Jonah Smith (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) had a chance to net a goal as well but his long range shot curved just wide of the near post.

Hagerstown would outshoot Frederick 15-6 and Waters would be credited with five saves on the afternoon.

The Hawks will look to make it six straight wins at home when they host Delaware Tech at 3:30pm on October 3.

After intercepting the pass, WCCC saw sophomore keeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) off his line and they were able to lob a shot over his head and into the net.
Hagerstown would recover quickly, and in the 37th minute sophomore Mamadou Jallow (Gambia, Africa/Thomas Johnson) attacked down the left side before passing the ball to classmate Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian). He would need just one quick move before placing his shot past the Wolfpack goalkeeper.
