Hagerstown Defeats Conference Opponent Frederick
Hagerstown, Md. - Hagerstown Community College got back in the winning column when they defeated MDJUCO opponent Frederick Community College, 6-0.
Freshman Genc Sopa (Kosovo/Kosovo) put the Hawks on the board in the 18th minute when he headed home a corner kick off the foot of freshman Daniel Doub (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport). HCC went up 2-0 in the 26th minute, when freshman Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) picked out sophomore Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy), who slammed the ball in off the far post.
Just two minutes into the second half, Sopa layed the ball off the sophomore Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) who beat the Frederick goalkeeper from 25 yards out. In the 60th minute, the Cougars didn't help their chances of getting back in the game, when an FCC defender put the ball in their own net. Sophomore Gabe Hirsch (Hagerstown, Md./Broadfording) finished a ball played in from freshman Justin Yates (Adamstown, Md./Tuscarora) in the 66th minute to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead.
Freshman Alex Sanchez (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) rounded out the scoring in the 73rd minute his diving header went into the back of the net after receiving a cross from classmate Garrett Cook (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora).
Freshman goalkeepers Kenny Frederickson (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy) and Chip Rittenhouse (Hagerstown, Md./South) split time in net and had a combined three saves, to seal the shutout for Hagerstown.
HCC continues conference play on Friday when they travel to Chesapeake College for a 4:00pm match.
