Hagerstown Falls to Harford in Region XX Division I Playoff
Hagerstown, Md.- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team saw their season come to an end at the hands of Harford Community College in the First Round of the Region XX, Division I Playoffs.
The Hawks were on their heels from the whistle and freshman goalkeeper Shad Gordon (Needmore, Pa./Southern Fulton) was forced to make a diving save five minutes into the game. Just three minutes later, Harford would net their first goal after a mistake from an HCC defender would be hammered into the net past Gordon.
In the 15th minute, Harford would go up by two goals when a long throw in found the head of a Fighting Owl player who would place it in the side netting. The Hawks would respond in the 25th minute, but sophomore Jonah Smith (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) saw his shot narrowly miss the left post.
Harford would tally their third goal of the half in the 30th minute. HCC had a throw in opportunity that resulted in a counter attack and eventually a deflection goal in favor of the Fighting Owls.
Again, the Hawks would try to chip away, but freshman Brad Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) had his low hard shot saved by the goalkeeper. The teams would head into halftime with the Fighting Owls up 3-0.
In the 55th minute, sophomore Leland Creadick (Myersville, Md./Middletown) just headed the ball over the crossbar after a chip in from freshman Mark Keating (Urbana, Md./Urbana). Hagerstown would finally find the goal in the 65th minute when freshman Jacob Bickley (Frederick, Md./Frederick) eluded two defenders and riffled a shot past the Harford goalkeeper.
The Fighting Owls would put the game out of reach though in the 78th minute when a Harford player would be Gordon to a jump ball and head it into the empty net.
With the loss, HCC has now had their season ended by Harford two of the last three years. The Fighting Owls move on to face No. 1 seed CCBC-Essex in the Region XX Division I Semi-Finals.
