Howard C.C. Tops Hagerstown in MDJUCO Action
Hagerstown, Md. -Howard Community College defeated Hagerstown Community College in MDJUCO action, 3-1.
The Hawks looked to get on the board in the 21st minute when sophomore Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) picked out classmate Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy)with a through ball. Morgan touched the ball around the keeper and picked out Hajjar with the return pass, but his shot was blocked by a sliding Dragon defender.
In the 25th minute, Howard took the lead 1-0 when an attacker took the ball in the Hawks box, turned and placed it far post. Eight minutes later, Howard went up 2-0, when they capitalized on an errant pass from an HCC defender and the ensuing shot sailed past freshman goalkeeper Chip Rittenhouse (Hagerstown, Md./South).
Hagerstown would tally a score of their own in the 42nd minute when a long throw in from freshman Josh Fahlfeder (Frederick, Md./Urbana) found the foot of Morgan who buried in the net from eight yards out.
In the second half, the Dragons scored an insurance goal in the 53rd minute when a thirty yard shot beat Rittenhouse. HCC would try to chip away at the lead, but an Alex Sanchez (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) shot would be saved by the keeper and a Spencer Horst (Hagerstown, Md./Grace Academy) shot would ring off the goalpost.
Rittenhouse finished with four saves, while classmate Fredy Velasquez (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) finished off the game and made two saves.
The Hawks host #20 in the nation CSM on Friday at 3:30pm in MDJUCO action.
