HCC opens season with 6-0 victory
Hagerstown, MD- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team opened their regular season with a convincing 6-0 win over non-conference opponent Lord Fairfax, Friday afternoon. The Hawks used six first-half goals to secure the victory.
Freshman Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) opened the scoring eight minutes into the game, when Edwin Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) slotted a ball between the Cannon defenders and onto the foot of Morgan. He was able to place the ball around the keeper and into the net for his first collegiate goal. Sophomore Roland Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) would follow up the goal by adding one of his own just four minutes later, after an errant Lord Fairfax goalkick found Wilson alone going to goal. Morgan would strike again in the 15th minute on an assist from Michael Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport). Michael Reyes would then net his own unassisted goal in the 25th minute on a 1v1 chance. Jordan Whitt (Hagerstown, Md./Broadfording) would find Wilson on a headball in the 31st minute to put the Hawks up 5-0. Freshman Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) would tally his first collegiate goal in the 37th minute, when his first shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but his follow-up blast could not be touched.
Sophomore Brian Kukucka (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) recorded five saves in the victory. HCC would outshoot the Cannons 21-5.
The Hawks return to action on Monday, when they square off against non-conference opponent Northern Virginia. Last season, the Hawks split games against NOVA, losing 2-4 and winning 3-0.
