HCC defeats NOVA with Second Half Goals
Woodbridge, VA- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team used two second half goals to defeat non-conference opponent Northern Virginia Community College, 2-0, on Monday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, the Hawks finally got on the board when freshman Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) riffled a shot from 25 yards out past the diving NOVA keeper, in the 52nd minute. This was Hajjar's second goal in consecutive games and it was assisted by sophomore Spencer Leggett (Boonsboro, Md./Broadfording). The Hawks found the net once again in the 71st minute, when sophomore Michael Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) placed a ball across the goal mouth and found classmate Andrew Fowkes (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) who slotted it side netting.
HCC keeper Brian Kukucka (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) would need to make nine saves to secure his second straight shut-out victory. With the win the Hawks improve to 2-0 and will square off against conference opponent Chesapeake Community College on Friday at 3:30.
