Hawks Finish Regular Season with 2-1 Victory
Woodbridge, Va. -The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team captured their 13th win and capped off the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Northern Virginia Community College.
The Hawks, coming into the contest on a three-game win streak, set the tone early when freshman Osman Ramizov (Hagerstown, Md./North) was fouled on a breakaway inside the penalty area in the 5th minute.
Sophomore captain Mamadou Jallow (Gambia, Africa/Thomas Johnson) stepped up to the spot kick and buried his seventh goal of the year.
The Hawks extended their lead in the 37th minute when Jallow sent in a free kick from 18 yards out that deflected off a NOVA player and into the net for the own goal.
Northern Virginia would respond just one minute later though when they tapped in a rebound off a save from sophomore goalkeeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora). Despite the challenge for offsides, the goal stood and the Hawks went into halftime with the 2-1 advantage.
In the second half, both teams would trade opportunities, with Hagerstown getting the best chance to blow the game open in the 75th minute. Jallow riffled a shot from 20 yards out that ricocheted off the keeper and the ensuing shot from freshman Brandon Redman (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) rang off both the crossbar and post before landing at the feet of freshman Bradley Coblentz (Frederick, Md./Middletown) who put the shot just over the bar.
Kipe would finish with seven saves on the afternoon. HCC now awaits their opponent for the NJCAA Region XX Division I Semi-finals on October 24.
