Hawks Surrender Lead and Fall to MDJUCO Opponent Prince George's
Largo, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team jumped on Prince George's early and took a 2-0 lead; however, they would eventually fall to the Owls 5-2.
HCC took a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute, when freshman Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) shot the ball from 35 yards out and it ricocheted off the crossbar and then off the goalie and into the net. In the 21st minute, sophomore Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) would extend the Hawks lead when he took a pass from classmate Gabe Hirsch (Hagerstown, Md./Broadfording) and then snuck behind the Owl's defense to slot the ball into the net.
Just two minutes later though, PG would begin to mount their comeback. A cross from the right side would draw freshman keeper Fredy Velasquez (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) out of the goal, where he was unable to get a hand on the ball and it would eventually end up in the back of goal. Prince George's would draw even just thirty seconds later when an identical play beat Velasquez again.
The Owl's would take the 3-2 lead in the 55th minute when a breakaway chance was put away past replacement keeper Chip Rittenhouse (Hagerstown, Md./South). In the 79th minute, PG extended their lead when a cross was mishandled by Rittenhouse and it fell to the feet of an Owl forward who hammered it into the net. Three minutes later Prince George's would strike again when a shot slipped through Rittenhouse's hands and into the side netting.
The loss concludes the regular season for the Hawks and they will host CCBC-Catonsville in the First Round of the Division I, Region XX Tournament.
