Hagerstown to Face Harford in First Round of Playoffs

Hagerstown, Md.- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team will square off against Harford Community College on Saturday, October 25 at 10:30am.

The Hawks earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament, while the Fighting Owls were awarded with the No. 4 seed.

HCC (6-12-1, 3-7-1) is coming into the match on a two-game losing streak, where they were defeated by Stevenson University (1-2) and the No. 1 seed CCBC-Essex (0-3). The last time the Hawks squared off against Harford was on September 24 and the Fighting Owls came from behind to win, 4-2. On the road, HCC is 3-6-1, while Harford is 5-4-1 at home. The Fighting Owls are 1-3-1 in their last 5 games.

Harford is led by Sophomore, Soloman Koumson-Dadzie, who has four goals and four assists for 12 points. Harford also features freshman John Lynn and sophomore Nat Hand. Lynn has four goals on the year, while Hand has three goals and one assist. In net, the Fighting Owls start sophomore Stephen Friend. Friend has started and played in 13 goals, recording 51 saves and garnering a 1.44 goals against average.

Sophomore Jonah Smith (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro), leads Hagerstown Community College with 10 goals, 11 assists, for 32 points. He is the only player in Hawk history to record back-to-back 30 point seasons. Freshman Jacob Bickley (Frederick, Md./Frederick) is second on the team in points with 19, coming from seven goals and five assists. Sophomore Leland Creadick (Myersville, Md./Middletown) is also a key contributor for the Hawks, with five goals and six assists for 16 points. In net, Hagerstown is without freshman starter, Cristian Mejia (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard). Mejia suffered a concussion against MDJUCO opponent CCBC-Catonsville, on October 8, and has not been medically cleared to participate. Therefore, freshman Shad Gordon (Needmore, Pa./Southern Fulton) will make his fourth start of the season. Gordon has 25 saves on the year, two shutouts, and a 1.32 goals against average.

The winner will face No. 1 seed, CCBC-Essex (16-3-0, 9-2-0) on Wednesday, October 29, while No. 2 College of Southern Maryland (9-6-0, 7-3-0) will face No. 3 Frederick (9-7-0, 4-6-0). Both games will be played at Dundalk Community College, near Baltimore, Md.

The Division I Region XX Championship is scheduled for Saturday, November 1 at 2:30pm at Dundalk Community College.
