HCC Suffers First Loss to #11 Montgomery-Rockville Community College
Hagerstown, MD- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season to #11 and conference foe Montgomery-Rockville, 3-0. The Hawks now fall to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in MDJUCO.
HCC found themselves under pressure just two minutes into the contest, when Montgomery-Rockville would find the back of the net on a diving header from eight yards out. The Knights took the 1-0 advantage into the half.
The Hawks came out the second half and found themselves in similar trouble early on. Montgomery-Rockville would extend the lead to 2-0, just four minutes into the second stanza. Six minutes later, the Knights would capitalize on a poor clearance from the HCC defense and bury their shot to make it 3-0.
Sophomore keeper Brian Kukucka (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) would be forced to leave the game after suffering a minor injury. He made 13 saves before giving way to fellow classmate Derek Apple (Martinsburg, Wva./Faith Christian Academy). Apple finished the match making five saves.
The Hawks look to get back on the winning track, when they travel to the College of Southern Maryland on Friday at 3:30pm. The CSM Hawks boast a 29-1-2 overall record on their home field over the last five years. Last season, the two teams split wins, with Hagerstown winning 3-2 in the regular season and CSM concluding HCC's season 2-1 in the Region Semi-Finals.
