Hawks Fall in Season Opener
Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team squared off against #13 Montgomery-Rockville, and it was the Hawks who were upended in their season home-opener, 2-0.
The Hawks battled MC to a 0-0 decision going into halftime. Sophomore goalkeeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) would be called upon early in the first half, making a tremendous save to his left to block a ball going in the upper corner. Minutes before half, Kipe would come up again with multiple close range saves.
HCC came out of the half with high energy and looked certain to break the deadlock in the 55th minute. Sophomore Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian)would slip a ball into freshman Kwasi Ofosu Ameyaw (Hagerstown, Md./South) who would beat the keeper with his shot, but would see it just skim off the crossbar and go high.
Rockville would regain posession and test Kipe in the 67th minute, but a diving save would keep the game at 0-0. Just eight minutes later though, MC would get on the board when a cross from the right side was headed into the far corner of the goal. Freshman Osman Ramizov (Hagerstown, Md./North) would try to draw even, but his breakaway attempt would be saved in the 80th minute. The Raptors would net another goal in the 88th minute, to secure the win, when another cross from the right side was headed into the goal.
Kipe finished the game with 24 saves on the afternoon.
The Hawks look to get their first win when they travel to Potomac State on September 2 at 1:00pm.
