HCC Falls to #2 Montgomery-Rockville to Finish Regular Season
Hagerstown, Md.- The Hagerstown Community College (10-9-0) men's soccer team took on #2 in the nation, Montgomery-Rockville, to conclude their regular season.
For two-year sophomores Bradley Coblentz (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Bobby Matusek (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Matt Suddith (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown), Aaron Rodgers (Funkstown, Md./South Hagerstown), and Alfred Ayenu (Toga, West Africa/South Hagerstown), it was their last home game for Hagerstown Community College.
HCC would control much of the play for the first eight minutes, but in the 9th minute, a mistake in the defense would cost Hagerstown a goal. After a turnover, Rockville would find a through ball that would be deflected off goalkeeper Adam Carrier (Cumberland, Md./Calvary Christian Acadmey) and into the net.
Just six minutes later, MC would capitalize again on a Hawk error in defense when a ball would richocette off a defender be played into the goal. In the 33rd minute, HCC would look to get back in the game, but freshman Jusseth Velazquez (Frederick, Md./Frederick) would see his chance be saved by the goalkeeper. The teams would go into half with Rockville having the 2-0 advantage.
In the 52nd minute the Raptors would extend their lead when they scored off a freekick from 25 yards out. They would stretch the game to four goals in the 62 minute when a breakdown in communication cost Hagerstown another goal.
The Hawks would chip away and get on the scoreboard just one minute later when freshman Dillon Eyler (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) slammed home a corner kick for his first collegiate goal.
Rockville would round out the scoring in the 83rd minute when a Raptor player slipped in behind the HCC defense and shot the ball from six yards out.
Carrier would finish the game with 11 saves in the losing effort. With the loss, the Hawks conclude their regular season and enter postseason play.
