Hawks Suffer Non Conference Loss
Youngland, Pa. - The Hagerstown Community College men's team rallied to tie the game, but surrendered another goal, which would eventually give Westmoreland County Community College the 2-1 non-conference victory over the Hawks.
The Hawks controlled much of the play for the first 40 minutes of the game, with their best chance coming from freshman Brandon Redman (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro). Redman found himself on a breakaway in the 26th minute, but his attempted shot far post would be saved by theWolfpack goalkeeper.
WCCC took the initial 1-0 lead with just 35 seconds remaining in the first half when an errant ball landed at the foot of a Wolfpack striker who placed the shot past sophomore keeper Chucky Kipe (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora).
HCC would rally in the 65th minute and even the game, when sophomore Genc Sopa (Kosovo, Europe/Lipian) netted his fifthgoal in two games. Sopa received the ball from freshman Osman Ramizov (Hagerstown, Md./North) and beat two defenders before hammering the ball under the crossbar and into the net. It would look like HCC would claim the victory in the 77th minute when Redmanfound himself alone with the goalkeeper again, but his shot from inside the penalty area would go wide right.
Westmoreland would capitalize and score the game winning goal in the 83rd minute when a long ball landed in the Hawk goal box and was finished into the net by a Wolfpack player. HCC would muster one last attack with 30 seconds left in the game when they sent a long ball free kick into the box, but the ball would be cleared off the goal line numerous times as time expired.
Kipe finished with 15 saves, and the Hawks fall to 2-2 overall.
