Freshmen Duo leads HCC to Double Overtime Win
Hagerstown, MD- Freshmen Zack Morgan (Greencastle, Pa./Grace Academy) and Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) both scored goals Sunday afternoon to defeat the Division I West Virginia University Club Team, 2-1 in Double Overtime.
After a scoreless first half, Morgan found the net in the 70th minute, when sophomore Michael Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) played a long through ball between the Mountaineer defenders and onto Morgan who finished a breakaway opportunity. The game looked to be all but over, until WVU broke through with a goal of their own in the 88th minute.
The two teams would battle during the overtime periods; however, HCC was awarded a penalty kick with five minutes remaining in the second sudden death stanza. Hajjar would convert from the spot, netting his third striaght game-winning goal and fourth of the season.
The freshmen duo of Hajjar and Morgan have accounted for nine of the Hawks 14 goals. With the win, HCC now rides a four game unbeaten streak; however, with the goal given up today, their scoreless streak was stopped at 358 minutes.
Sophomore keeper Brian Kukucka (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) made seven saves on the afternoon, while the Hawks outshot the Mountaineers 23-10. HCC plays home against conference opponent Harford Community College on Tuesday at 3:30pm.
