Hagerstown to Face CCBC-Essex in Semi-Finals of Division I Region XX Tournament
Hagerstown, MD- The Hagerstown Community men's soccer team will travel to Harford Community College to take on CCBC-Essex for a semi-final showdown in the Division I Region XX Tournament. The two squads will meet Wednesday in Bel Air, MD at 3:00 pm.
The Hawks earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, while the Knights were awarded with the No. 2 seed.
HCC (10-8-1, 6-5-1 MDJUCO) and CCBC-Essex (11-5-2, 9-1-2 MDJUCO) have already met once this year, with the Knights getting the better of the Hawks. CCBC-Essex used a goal in each half to sink Hagerstown 2-0.
The Knights are led by freshman Mikias Teketele and sophomore Cubay Wilson, Jr. Teketele has 13 goals, seven assists, for a total of 33 points, while Wilson, Jr. has seven goals, six assists, for 20 points. Sophomore Richard Willis has surrendered only two goals while he's been in net for the Knights. He is currently ranked first in the MDJUCO, boasting a .200 goals against average.
Sophomore Michael Reyes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) leads Hagerstown Community College, with 10 goals, eight assists, for 28 points, while freshman Garrett Hajjar (Frederick, Md./Urbana) has 27 points, on 13 goals and one assist. Sophomore Brian Kukucka (Frederick, Md./Urbana) has started all but one of the Hawks games in net this season. He is ranked 7th in the nation with his 131 saves and he has posted five shutouts.
In other Division I Region XX tournament action, the No. 4 Harford Community College Hawks (10-6-1, 6-5-1 MDJUCO) defeated the No. 5 Catonsville Cardinals (6-9-1, 4-7-1 MDJUCO) 3-2 in the first round.
Top-seeded College of Southern Maryland (10-7-0, 8-3-0 MDJUCO) will now face Harford in the semi-finals on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
The Division I Region XX Championship is scheduled for Saturday, October 30 at 1:30 pm at Harford Community College.
