Hawks Hire Brandon Rethemeyer as Head Coach
Hagerstown, Md.- Hagerstown Community College announced today that they have finalized an agreement with Brandon Rethemeyer to be the next head coach of the men's soccer team.
"I am so excited that Brandon (Rethemeyer) has accepted the Head Men's Soccer Coach position at Hagerstown Community College," Acting Athletic Director and ARCC Facility Coordinator, Amy Sterner said in a statement. "Brandon brings a wealth of experience to the program and I know, under his leadership, he and the team will accomplish many great things."
Rethemeyer has served for the past eight years as the assistant coach for Hagerstown Community College, under newly retired 10 year head coach, Brian Eichelberger. While assisting, the Hawks had an overall record of 75-70-8, and qualified for eight straight MDJUCO playoffs.
A Hagerstown native, Rethemeyer was a 2001 graduate of Smithsburg High School, where he earned All-County, All-Area, and All-MVAL honors while captaining the Smithsburg team. Upon graduation, Rethemeyer attended Hagerstown Community College where he played goalkeeper and earned an AA degree in Health & Physical Education. Rethemeyer then transferred to Frostburg State University where he finished his goalkeeping career during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He helped Frostburg to a combined 21-15-4 overall record and one ECAC Tournament appearance. He graduated with a BA in Health & Physical Education.
Prior to joining the HCC staff in 2008, Rethemeyer was an assistant coach for Frostburg State University, while earning his Master's Degree in Human Performance. During that stretch, he helped coach Frostburg State to a 28-30-2 overall record and a 15-10-4 record in the conference. Each season, the Bobcats reached the AMCC Semifinals and in 2007 FSU earned a berth in the ECAC tournament. They would win two straight overtime games, before falling in the Championship game to Swarthmore in overtime.
Rethemeyer also has trained overseas, playing in both Scotland and England. He competed against professional, semi-professional, and amateur teams while touring the countries. He also has been an instructor for Frostburg State and Rich Daughtridge Soccer Camps, as well as the Denison Cabral Soccer Academy. Rethemeyer holds his Regional Coaching Diploma with NSCAA.
“Having been deeply involved with the HCC Soccer program for so many years, the philosophy remains the same," stated Rethemeyer. "It’s never about a single game, or a single result. We look at the program as a whole and we have to feel comfortable in the direction that it’s going. We promote discipline and accountability from our student-athletes and the success we've seen are a direct relation to thier hardwork and dedication. We are proud of our past accomplishments, but we are always moving forward towards our ultimate goal of a Region Championship and National Tournament appearance."
