Akheem Riley to play for Hagerstown C.C.
Hagerstown, Md. - Thomas Johnson senior, Akheem Riley, recently committed to
attend Hagerstown Community College for the fall 2013 season.
Riley, a 2012 captain for the Patriots, was a prominent
player in Frederick County during his playing career, due to his physical size.
The 6’1 midfielder/striker was a two-time All-MVAL Piedmont recipient for TJ. A
three-year member on the varsity squad, he finished with nine goals and 13
assists for 31 points. Thomas Johnson finished 7-7-2 in 2011 and 4-10-2 in
2012. During his senior year, the Patriots went to penalty kicks with Linganore
in the 3A West Playoffs, dropping the match though, 4-3.
Riley has spent four years playing club for FC Frederick.
This season, they are ranked third in the state of Maryland with a record of
17-5-9. His team was 2012 Disney Showcase Champions and 2013 semi-finalists for
Baltimore Mania and Jefferson Cup. In 2011, Riley was a member of the Regional
Riley also earned varsity letters in track, competing in
hurdles and 400M.
Riley joins TJ teammate Edgar Rivas for the 2013 season, and
will play alongside current Hawk, Fourkoko Chaw once again. Fellow Frederick
County recruits, Dillon Eyler, Leland Creadick, and Jusseth Velazquez have
already committed to the program for the upcoming season, combined with
Washington County recruit, Yusuf Bodirov and West Virginia native, Ethan
“Adding Akheem to our 2013 recruiting class was a big goal
of ours,” mentioned head coach Brian Eichelberger. “He has the ability to play
a few different positions for us so we are excited about his versatility. He
gives us a target player on the field due to his size and he will garner
attention right away from opposing defenders. We look forward to developing him
into a dangerous college soccer player.”
