Soccer Releases 2011 Schedule

Hagerstown, Md. - Hagerstown Community College coaches Brian Eichelberger and Brandon Rethemeyer have announced the release of the 2011 men's soccer schedule.

The Hawks will play 17 regular season games, along with three exhibition games. Hagerstown will begin exhibition play on Aug. 19 at home against the Alumni. The Hawks will then face Division III opponents Frostburg State University in an exhibition match on Aug. 22 in Frostburg, Md and then Hood College on Aug. 25 in Frederick, Md. 

Hagerstown C.C. will open up the 2011 season on the road against MDJUCO opponent and #14 in the nation, Montgomery College-Rockville (14-4-2) on Aug. 29 at 4:00 p.m. The Hawks will then travel to Potomac State College of WV (8-6-0) on Sept. 1 for a 3:30 p.m. match. Hagerstown will then return for their home-opener against Region XX Division I Finalist and MDJUCO opponent, College of Southern Maryland (11-7-1) on Sept. 6 for a 3:30 p.m. match.

The Hawks will stay home for a MDJUCO match against Cecil College (1-15-0) on Sept. 9 at 3:30 p.m. Hagerstown C.C. will begin a three-game road stand, where they travel to MDJUCO member, Anne Arundel C.C. (11-8-0) on Sept. 13 at 6:00 p.m., then to MDJUCO opponent Allegany College of Maryland (2-10-1) on Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. and then finally to Northern Virginia Community College on Sept. 16 at 3:30 p.m.

Hagerstown will return to their home pitch for four straight matches against MDJUCO teams. HCC will square off against 2010 MDJUCO Champion, Region XX DIII Champion, and NJCAA Tournament participant, #6 Howard Community College (17-2-3) on Sept. 21 at 3:30 p.m. The Hawks will then face Catonsville C.C. (6-10-1) on Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. HCC will then rematch Region XX DI Champion, Essex Community College (12-6-3) on Sept. 30 at 3:30 p.m. The Hawks were beating the Knights 2-0 in the second half of the Region XX, DI Semifinals, before eventually falling 3-2 in overtime. Hagerstown will wrap up the home stand with a match against Frederick Community College (0-13-0) on Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m.

The Hawks will go on the road for a MDJUCO match against Cheapeake College (3-10-0) on Oct. 7 for a 4:00 p.m. match, before returning home the next day for a non conference test against Delaware Tech (8-7-1) at 1:00 p.m. HCC will then travel to conference foe, Harford C.C. (11-7-1) on Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. and then to Prince Georges C.C. (10-9-0) on Oct. 14 for a 3:30 p.m. contest.

Hagerstown wraps up the regular season with two home games against out of conference opponents. They face Potomac State College of WV (8-6-0) in a return leg of a home and home battle on Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m., before concluding their season against Northern Virginia Community College again on Oct. 19 at 3:30 p.m.

The Region XX Playoffs will start with the first round on Oct. 22 at the home site of the higher seed, with the Final Four competing Oct. 26-Oct. 29 at Anne Arundel Community College. The winner will move onto the NJCAA District and face the winner of Region XII at home.

"Last year, including ourselves, six of the 13 MDJUCO teams were ranked nationally at one point of another, so the competition should continue to be at an all-time high", stated Head Coach Brian Eichelberger. "We will be tested immediately when we open up with Rockville, as they have always been a top team in the league. This will give our guys a challenge to look forward to as we begin preseason. We have a lot of big games at home this year, so we are looking forward to competing at a high level on our home field."
