Washington County All-Area Midfielder picks Hagerstown C.C.

Hagerstown, Md. - Smithsburg High School senior, Nick Shirey, has recently announced his commitment to the Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team.

The versatile Shirey played every position for Smithsburg during his four-year varsity career. His senior year he even took over the goalkeeping duties, posting 178 saves. He finished with five goals and nine assists during his time with Smithsburg.

Shirey would earn All-County Honorable Mention as a midfielder his junior year, while taking home Second Team All-County his senior year as a goalkeeper.

Shirey also participates in track at Smithsburg, performing the long and triple jump.

"I chose HCC because it is a great place to start my college soccer career," stated Shirey. "It will give me opportunities to continue playing at the four-year college level"

"In meetings with Nick, he has the perfect team-player attitude," mentioned head coach Brandon Rethemeyer. "His goal is to come in and help this program wherever he is needed and as I coach I look forward to further developing his talents. He has good size and all around ability to play multiple positions."
