Two Hawks Record Hat Tricks, as HCC Defeats Penn State Mt. Alto

Hagerstown, Md.- The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team netted four first half goals, followed by five in the second half, to defeat Penn State Mont Alto 9-1.

HCC struck first in the 13th minute when freshman Jermaine Hardy, Jr. (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) found classmate Ernesto Mejia (Damascus, Md./Damascus) off a corner kick play. Mejia would head the ball far post past the Nittany Lions goalkeeper. Just 12 minutes later, Mejia found his second goal of the afternoon after freshman Eric Madrid (Germantown, Md./Northwest) crossed the ball into the box which found the foot of Mejia. HCC would extend their lead in the 40th minute when freshman Ever Henriquez (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) laid the ball off to Hardy from 20 yards out. Hardy would riffle that found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

In the 44th minute, Hardy dished out his second assist to freshman Alejandro C. Oliart (Germantown, Md./Northwest). After a through ball down the sideline, Oliart would chip the oncoming keeper from 12 yards out. Hagerstown would take the 4-0 lead into the intermission.

Seven minutes into the second half, Mejia completed his hat trick when Hardy played him a ball down the left side. As the goalkeeper came out, Mejia buried his left footed shot into the side netting. Eight minutes later Oliart netted his second goal when he picked off a goal kick and took it straight into the box before slotting it past the PS goalkeeper.

HCC would record goals in the 70th and 72nd minutes respectively to extend their lead to 8-0. Freshman Geordy Nyam (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) found teammate Tareeq Bello (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) who beat the keeper on a  dribble and tapped the ball into the open net. Freshman Martin Alvarez (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) would then lay the ball into the path of Oliart of beat the Nittany Lion goalkeeper one-on-one for his third goal of the match.

Penn State Mont Alto would break the shutout in the 76th minute when a Nittany Lion player would take the ball from the Hawks and place a shot past freshman goalkeeper Tim Horning (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg). HCC would quickly rebound and tack another goal on the board in the 88th minute. After receiving a ball from teammate Alex Udy (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro), Nyam beat his defender and shot the ball far post into the net.

With the win, Hagerstown goes to 1-1-0 overall and will face MDJUCO opponent Cecil College on Wednesday.
