HCC Downs West Virginia University Club

Keyser, W.Va.- Freshman Jermaine Hardy , Jr. (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) would record a goal and an assist to help the Hawks down the West Virginia University Club Team, 4-1.

After a grueling game the night before, the Hawks would come out flat and find themselves down 1-0 just two minutes into the game. The WVU player would beat an HCC defender down the right side before placing the ball far post past Hagerstown goalkeeper, Cristian Mejia (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard). The Hawks would respond though and tie the game in the 15th minute. Freshman, Ernesto Mejia (Damascus, Md./Damascus) would see his shot saved by the Mountaineers goalkeeper, but the follow-up chance by classmate Eric Madrid (Germantown, Md./Northwest) would find the back of the net. HCC would continue their pursuit to break the game open, out shooting WVU 14-2 in the first half, but the game would head into halftime tied 1-1.

Hagerstown would finally net the game-winner in the 66th minute when freshman Thomas Alvarez (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) slotted the ball to teammate Martin Alvarez (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) who would then pick out Hardy at the top of the six yard box for a placement shot past the diving goalkeeper. HCC would record an insurance goal in the 77th minute when Hardy picked out freshman Alex Udy (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) on a corner kick play, for his second goal of the season. The Hawks tacked on a late goal in the 88th minute freshman Tareeq Bello (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) played a through ball to classmate Alejandro C. Oliart (Germantown, Md./Northwest). Oliart would control the pass inside the WVU box and then put his shot far post past the Mountaineers goalkeeper.

Mejia would be credited with his third win of the year, while making five saves. With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-2-0 overall and they return to action on Tuesday when the face MDJUCO rival, Harford C.C. A 6:00pm kickoff is scheduled for the match.
