Freshman Geordy Nyam Sets Hawk Record in MDJUCO Win

Hagerstown, Md.- Freshman Geordy Nyam (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) set a Hawk record for 13 points in one game, off six goals and one assist, to help propel the Hagerstown Community College men’s soccer team to a 12-1 win over MDJUCO opponent Cecil College.

The Hawks took control of the game in the 6th minute when freshman Jermaine Hardy Jr. (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) picked out teammate Alejandro C. Oliart (Germantown, Md./Northwest) with a well played long ball. Oliart would run behind the Seahawks backline and slot the ball past the keeper. Hardy would then put the Hawks up 2-0 in the 16th minute when sophomore Jake Ernst (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) played a diagonal ball to him, where he was able to juke the goalkeeper and tap the ball into the empty net.

Nyam would net the next three goals for the Hawks to put them up 5-0 before the 31st minute. Freshman Nate Redmond (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) would assist on Nyam’s second goal, while classmate Bryce Miracle (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) would be credited with assisting his third.

Freshman Alex Udy (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) would give the Hawks a 6-0 advantage in the 40th minute when he received a perfectly played ball from Nyam across the Seahawk box. Udy would one time strike the ball into the net past the diving goalkeeper. Nyam would tally his fourth goal and then Redmond struck the 8th goal in the half for the Hawks. Freshman Tareeq Bello (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) would assist on Redmond’s goal.

The Hawks continued applying pressure in the second half and Oliart would hammer a ball into the upper portion of the goal in the 53rd minute. HCC made it 10-0 just seven minutes later when Hardy tallied his second assist of the game. This time he picked out a wide open Ernesto Mejia (Damascus, Md./Damascus) in front of the Cecil goal and he would beat the keeper to the lower right.

Cecil would get on the board in the 74th minute when a Hawk defender was called for a penalty kick. The spot kick would be placed just out of the reach of freshman Tim Horning (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg).

Nyam would score his fifth and sixth goals of the game in the 87th and 89th minutes respectively. Bello earned his second assist of the match on the Hawks’ last goal.

Hawk starting goalkeeper, Cristian Mejia (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard) would record five saves while Horning finished with four.
